Project - Bana Tarsoly.
This is a recreation of a tarsoly (sabertache or purse cover) from Hungary. It is being made out of a sheet of silver, 12cm by 12 cm by 1mm thick. Photographs will be coming when I can get them.
Project status - 70% done (16-Nov-04).
Work completed:
- Shaping of the silver sheet to correct contours.
- Laying out of pattern on the surface.
Work in progress:
- Stippling - 80% done. The stippling covers most of the face and creates a rather lovely vine pattern accross the surface. It is horrible to do. I guess in theory, I could finish it in one day, but it's too monotonous. The stippling I am doing is way too fine.
Work to be done:
- Stamping the border. The Tarsoly's border has circular depressions around the border. I shall do these with a modified pin punch and a block of wood.
- Fixing the rivets. The back had 6 or 7 rivets attached to the back to hold it together. They will be silver soldered onto the piece.
- Tarnishing - the piece has a lot of stippling which will be brought out by creating tarnish in the depressions with a weak acid mix.
